Vain Spotlight: An Interview with Camille Dg

10 Sep Vain Spotlight: An Interview with Camille Dg

Camille Desrosiers is a Canadian gem – she’s a TV host,  fashion blogger &  president of a marketing agency, who somehow manages to keep a smile on her face through it all. Her most recent fashion project is called The Booklet –  an English edition of her popular French blog Le Cahier. We talk to Camille about clothes, skincare, and positivity in this exclusive chat with the homegrown fashion icon.

In just one year, Le Cahier has become a hugely popular and influential fashion blog. How did it begin, and what inspired you to start it?

I wrote on four different blogs before Le Cahier began in 2013. I always felt that fashion should be accessible to everyone, which I suppose is why I started blogging. I’m an average girl – not a model, not a millionaire – but I love to dress up. Since day one, we worked as hard as possible to create content readers would love. We started by publishing one, then 3, then 5 articles a day to make sure our readers always have new stuff to read. As it turns out, fashion was not my only passion. Le Cahier grew bigger and bigger as we started to broaden our range of topics from fashion to beauty to lifestyle.

You recently launched an English version of Le Cahier, called The Booklet. How is fashion blogging in English different than in French?

It is two worlds! We do not use the same expressions, the same references… I’m meeting a whole new crowd. It’s very exciting. I’ve been in the media in Quebec for more than 6 years, so it’s like starting a new adventure, and I love that! We are actually building a new team for that website to make sure we appeal to English readers in Canada, the USA and the rest of the world.

Where are your favorite hidden spots in Montreal?

My rooftop terrace! I can read and be totally alone  – well, me and my cats of course. In the city, I would say the surf spot in front of Habitat 67. You don’t even feel like you’re in the city anymore!

If you couldn’t tell by our name, Vain Pursuits is all about self-appreciation. What is your favorite thing about yourself?

Jeez, I’m not the same, haha! Mentally, I would say my drive. I never have enough projects! Physically, I would say my abs. I love my muscle and being in shape.

What is one fashion trend you will never understand?

There are some trends I would NEVER wear personally, but I see why others would like it! I love fashion, but there is some stuff simply not made for me.

You seem like one of the happiest people on Earth. What are your tips for staying positive?

That is such a nice comment! My dad has always called me «Petit Soleil», which means Little Sun. I have always been happy. I tell myself the day will be fun every morning. I never look at problems, I look at solutions, especially in my work life. I think I am just made that way. Not to mention I am surrounded by love. My family is a blessing. I work with my sister everyday and she is my best friend. It doesn’t get any better than that, no?

What is a typical Camille day?

Oof! They’re never the same. Ever! I am the President of Codmorse, a web-marketing agency, so I get to the office as soon as I can (normally between 8 and 9 AM) and see where the day takes me from there.

If you could go on vacation tomorrow, where would you go?

I would love to go to Asia! I’ve never been, and it’s so intriguing to me. My next stop will probably be Morroco, but I’m going to Vancouver for the first time (I know, so bad of me) this October with my dad. I love travelling – as soon as I get home, I start planning my next trip. I don’t know how I could choose my best vacation. Jamaica, Spain, Italy, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Salvador – I love my beaches, I have to say!

What is your favorite scent?

The sea. I always miss the smell of the beach. In my home, I would say anything citrusy.

It’s Happy Hour with your friends. What drink do you order?

Margarita (but no pre-mix full of sugar, please!), Caïpirina or Paloma. I’m a tequila girl all the way… or cachaça when they have it!

How do you take care of your skin after a busy day in the city?

I’m a television host. My skin is attacked by makeup everyday, so I always make sure to clean it well in the evening. Then I hydrate it and put a little bit of tanning cream on my face for a healthy look!

Make sure to check out Le Cahier’s Facebook page and read Camille Dg’s new blog The Booklet  for French-inspired fashion and beauty advice! You won’t regret it – I promise.
